Also known as “Y Wee Care,” our Half-Day Preschool is an early childhood education program that gives each child the attention and learning opportunities he or she needs at this crucial stage of development.
Our Y Wee Care program provides enriching activities that will help your child grow emotionally, socially, cognitively and physically while learning in a warm and supportive environment. Half-Day Preschool offers a well-rounded, age-appropriate, and fun curriculum in a pleasant and caring setting.
Our facility also allows us the unique opportunity to include swim and gym into the curriculum.
Our center generally follows the same calendar as the public school systems. We begin school the first Monday after Labor Day in September and end on the Friday after Memorial Day. We are closed for two full weeks at Christmas. If the majority of area schools are closed due to inclement weather, our program will also be canceled for that day.
Y Wee Care Early Childhood Education
Our Half-Day Preschool Center offers kids a variety of learning experiences throughout the morning. Each class has one teacher and one assistant,. Exposure to early literacy includes shared reading and writing activities, language play and environmental print. Math readiness is learned through manipulative play.
The kids explore techniques and express themselves creatively using a variety of artistic media, while learning how to participate in a group by taking turns, sharing, making requests, stating feelings and problem solving. Other important parts of the curriculum include:
• Music and Song
• Science and Nature
• Dramatic Play
• Sensory Play
• Large and Small Motor Development
We bring each child to a place of readiness by embedding learning goals in their natural play.
The children enjoy a daily snack time, and once a month we take walking trips to the Public Library for story time, puppets, and finger-plays. We also plan additional field trips throughout the year.
In Our Y Wee Care Program, kids participate in weekly half-hour swim classes. The five-morning class has two swim classes each week.
Our goal is to help the children become comfortable in the water and to encourage them to become independent and try some swimming skills. The lessons are taught by the Y Aquatic Staff, but parents are encouraged to participate. Our classes change in the Family Changing Room.
The kids also enjoy one, half-hour weekly gym class where they exercise, dance and play group games. Our qualified instructors help kids develop listening skills, follow directions, improve hand-to-eye coordination, learn movement to music, and exercise large and small muscle skills. All classes emphasize fun and safety.
Our staff always accompanies the kids in the pool area and gym to enhance each child’s individual progress.
Tuition is paid monthly with total amounts depending upon the class and the parent’s YMCA membership status. There is a $35 non-refundable registration fee due at the front desk at the time of enrollment.
