The groups participate in camp activities in periods of approximately 45-60 minutes and each activity is led by a counselor or lifeguard experienced in that area. Our facility has a multi station playground and we are expanding our hiking trails with a new 2 mile trek that gives hikers a closer view of the wind turbines.
Our Rock Climbing Wall at the Y provides for an exciting challenge for all the campers, helping them learn self-confidence, self esteem and trust.
Our program activities include swimming, basketball, archery, low elements ropes course, arts-n- crafts, soccer, volleyball, new games, nature hiking, outdoor cooking, boating, canoeing and fishing. Campers must bring his or her own fishing equipment and bait. Our staff incorporates fun themes each week to make the camp experience one that will last a lifetime! We will again be offering the Character Camp – overnight for those children exhibiting the Y core values – and the “Weekend Trips.”
We are pleased to have Robb Garrand, “Mr. G,” back for his 18th season as Camp Director for Camp Jericho. Robb is the Superintendent of Northeastern Clinton Central School District, Director of the NCCS Outdoor Education Program, and the boys varsity basketball coach.
Jeff Norton will again direct the camp in Robb’s absence. Jeff is a Kindergarten teacher at the Rouses Point Elementary School. This will be Jeff’s 12th session with the camp.
In the past few years, we have seen more returning staff, which has been a big plus for the overall operation and quality of the camp program. All staff are carefully screened and selected for their experience, education, skill and commitment to our camp philosophy. All counselors go through an extensive orientation and pre-camp training.
